"Rocky Mountain High" is a folk rock song written and performed by American singer-songwriter John Denver. It was released in September 1972 as the second single from his fourth studio album, Rocky Mountain High (1972). The song went on to become one of Denver's most popular songs, and was certified as a Gold record by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1975. The song was produced by Milt Okun, who also produced Denver's 1971 album, Poems, Prayers and Promises. The single was recorded at RCA Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, and was released on RCA Victor Records. The song features acoustic guitar, mandolin, accordion, and fiddle. The song's lyrics describe the feeling of elation and spiritual connection one can experience when visiting the Rocky Mountains. The song is widely interpreted as a tribute to the state of Colorado, where Denver was born and raised.
