"Downtown (feat. Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee & Eric Nally)" is a song by American hip hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. It was released as the lead single from their second studio album, This Unruly Mess I've Made, on August 27, 2015. The song features four prominent rappers from the 1980s hip hop scene: Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee and Eric Nally. The song is based around a sample of the 1967 song "Downtown" by Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent. The sample is complemented by a bright and lively beat produced by Ryan Lewis, and features a modern twist on classic hip hop elements, such as scratching and braggadocio lyrics from the four featured rappers. The song celebrates the culture of hip hop and the four rappers' contributions to the form. "Downtown (feat. Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee & Eric Nally)" was a commercial success, peaking at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and being certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
