"Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" is a power ballad by American boy band Backstreet Boys, released in December 1999 as the seventh and final single from their third studio album, Millennium. It was written by Max Martin and Herbert Crichlow, and produced by Martin and Kristian Lundin. The song speaks of the protagonist's feelings of isolation and his longing for a lover. The track is a mid-tempo pop ballad with lyrics that portray feelings of loneliness and longing for a lover. The song's instrumentation consists mainly of strings, piano, and drums.
