The song was written by Cabello, Amy Wadge, Benny Blanco, Ed Sheeran, and Andrew Watt, and produced by Blanco and Watt. "Burn" is a song from the Broadway musical Hamilton, written by composer Lin-Manuel Miranda and sung by Phillipa Soo. In the song, they reflect on their relationship and how they will cope with the inevitable separation that awaits them. "Sorry" is a mid-tempo R&B and soul-pop track that features a sparse production, with its lyrics discussing female empowerment and female satisfaction in spite of heartbreak. The song features a sample of "La Di Da Di" by Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick. The accompanying music video for the song was released on April 23, 2016 and was directed by Kahlil Joseph with cinematography by Malik Sayeed. It featured appearances from Serena Williams, Zendaya, Quvenzhané Wallis and Amandla Stenberg.
